The Orange Runners Club's walk party July 19 at Fancher-Davidge Park in Middletown got people out walking and helped the county's homeless animals.
"Our organization would like to make a donation of a fair share of the event proceeds to the Newburgh SPCA, who you recently wrote about in regard to their conversion to a no-kill facility," said club President Todd Jennings in an e-mail to me. "The Orange Runners Club recognizes the commitment that this shelter has made to the welfare of the animal community, and is proud to help out in any way we can."
Jennings brought his club's donation of $300 to the NSPCA last week.
"It was a really nice surprise to have them choose us," said shelter Manager Michelle Gorta, "because they're donating to other groups in need, other causes, which generally include humans. They chose this time to donate to animals, and that was a huge help and a great surprise."
