Feb. 29, 2008, Volume 3

Here we are, five days after the final race in the ORC Winter Series, and just a handful of days prior to the Celebrate Life Half Marathon. Good luck to everyone running the Celebrate Life this weekend!!! I will have to miss it, the first time for me since the race's inception.

Amazing how two months have passed so quickly. Hope you are well along your way to whatever personal goals you have set for yourself this year. If you are thinking of getting faster, take a look to your right for new info on the 2008 ORC Track Workouts. Like they say: "the only way you can run faster is by running faster."

As everyone should be aware, the joint Sullivan Striders/ORC mixer at the Guilded Otter was rescheduled to Friday, March 7. You can get directions and check out the Otter's menus and events by clicking on the link above. RSVP to todjen@optonline.net. Hope to see you there at 6 p.m. to celebrate you, your commitment to running and the Hudson Valley running community

Thanks to the loyal reader who pointed out a quirk in my sentence structure from the last NSSG. It's kind of funny, so I figured I would note it here. Last issue I wrote: " I am married and have three children, 12, 8 and 4. I am the only one who runs in our house, currently." That's absolutely untrue. My two boys, 8 and 4, are always running in our house. However, I am the only one in our home who runs recreationally.

Let me know how you like the newsletter format. We are improving it every edition, hopefully to the point where you like it. E-mail me and let me know what we can do to enhance it more. And don't forget; newsletter content should be about us. So submit something about your personal 2008 goals. Send us a link to a cool new run that other members can check out. We're always just an e-mail away.

So what are you waiting for? Lace 'em up and get out there already.

Next ORC Meeting

Expand your Horizons

Did anyone read the New York Times article this week about cross-training/weight training? I have never cross-trained when training for a marathon. (I am training for my seventh this spring in Burlington, VT.) Here is a link to the article. Take a few minutes to read it through and write us about your opinions on weight-training to improve your running. We would love to publish club member thoughts on the subject.
