As many of you know, during the past years our community has been devastated by natural disasters and many of our neighbors have suffered greatly because of this. Businesses in the area were also affected which caused a disruption in their normal business activities. Churches, Food Pantries and others were also affected by these events. Many others, who were more fortunate, reached out to help their neighbors by donating food, clothing and money to those in need. We at the HV15K, being members of the Blooming Grove community, also assisted in the effort to help out our neighbors but we have decided to do more.
Over the past years, the HV15K has raised thousands for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. This donation translates to over $50,000 in food purchased by the food bank to support various food banks in the 9 counties of the Hudson Valley. One victim of the devastating floods was the Country Kids 4H Food Pantry which has found a new home in the Yellow house next to St. Mary’s Church. However, the Food Pantry is in need of supplies to continue to perform their function of assisting our neighbors in need.
Therefore, the HV15K's daughter race, The Food Bank 5K starting and finishing at Bella Luna Restaurant will likewise dedicate all of the sponsorship money and profits from the race to the Food Pantry in order to restock their shelves and purchase any equipment the Food Pantry will need to perform their vital function. We will also be trying to stuff the Food Pantry van with non-perishable food products on race day. If you are participating on race day please consider bring boxed or can food to stuff the van.
